Vietnam’s pepper exports jump over 30% in Q1 2026
VOV.VN - Vietnam exported 66,350 tonnes of pepper in the first quarter of 2026, generating US$430 million in revenue, up 39.2% in volume and 31.7% in value year on year, according to the Vietnam Pepper and Spice Association (VPSA).
March alone saw particularly strong performance. Businesses exported 30,638 tonnes, including 26,190 tonnes of black pepper and 4,448 tonnes of white pepper, for a total value of US$199.3 million. Export volume more than doubled compared to February, rising 119.3%, and was up 51.3% from the same month last year.
Export prices showed mixed movement. Black pepper averaged US$6,520 per tonne in March, down slightly by 0.7% from the previous month, while white pepper rose 1% to US$8,735 per tonne.
The United States and China remained Vietnam’s largest markets, importing 8,059 tonnes and 3,663 tonnes respectively in March. Shipments to both markets soared 121% and 134.7% respectively. Other markets also recorded notable gains, including Egypt (up 294.5%), the Netherlands (206.6%), Canada (205.8%), and the Philippines (83.6%).
Leading exporters included Olam Vietnam (3,041 tonnes), Phuc Sinh (2,928 tonnes), Tran Chau (1,852 tonnes), Haprosimex JSC (1,794 tonnes), and Nedspice Vietnam (1,727 tonnes).
During the three-month period, the United States was the largest importer with 16,859 tonnes, representing a year-on-year rise of 63.9% and accounting for 25.4% of total exports. China ranked second with 8,563 tonnes, surging 321%. Other key markets included the UAE (up 15.4%), India (down 27.1%), and the Philippines (up 46.9%).
Regionally, Asia continued to drive growth, accounting for 46% of Vietnam’s pepper exports, followed by the Americas at 28% and Europe at 20%.
