Vietnam’s coffee exports to Thailand surge in value despite volume decline
VOV.VN - A sharp surge in price has helped to boost Vietnam’s export value of coffee to Thailand despite a significant drop in volume, according to Vietnam Customs.
In March 2025, Vietnam exported 3,643 tonnes of coffee to Thailand worth US$27.78 million, a 40.8% decrease in volume but a 33.2% increase in value compared to the same month last year.
Cumulative Q1 2025 figures show that Vietnam shipped 8,067 tonnes of coffee to Thailand, earning US$62.6 million. While volume fell 30.7%, export value surged 61.4% from Q1 2024, driven by soaring prices.
Accordingly, the average export price of Vietnamese coffee to Thailand in March reached US$7,628 per tonne, up 0.2% from February and up 124.8% compared to March, 2024.
Vietnam mainly exported Robusta coffee to the Thai market with 1,209 tonnes worth US$5.97 million during the three-month period, down 74.3% year on year in volume and down 55.5% in value.
It also raked in US$27.8 million from exporting processed coffee to the market, up 583%.
Within the ASEAN bloc, apart from the Thai market, Vietnam also earned US$86.7 million, US$60.9 million, and US$49.9 million from exporting coffee to the Philippines, Indonesia, and Malaysia, respectively.
The export performance shows despite declining volumes, Vietnam is gaining higher returns through value-added and processed coffee, especially in regional markets like Thailand.
