Vietnamese tea is now available in more than 100 markets.

In March, the country exported 8,500 tonnes of tea, an increase of 30.2 percent, to fetch US$11.6 million, up 26.6 percent from February.

This raised Vietnam’s total amount of tea exports in the first quarter to 25,900 tonnes with a turnover of $35.6 million, representing a 10.8 percent rise in volume, a 30.2 percent rise in value as compared with the same period last year.

The average price of Vietnamese tea is reported to have gone up 8 percent year-on-year, but this remains low and equals only a half of the world’s average price.

In terms of tea types, black tea accounts for nearly 80 percent of the total Vietnamese tea shipped abroad, followed by green tea (18.1 percent).

In the first quarter, Vietnam earned $27.7 million from exporting nearly 21,000 tonnes of black tea, whose largest markets are Russia, India, and the US.
