Vietnamese spice industry promoted to US businesses

VOV.VN - The Vietnamese Embassy in the US and the American Spice Trade Association (ASTA) on September 10 co-hosted an event in Washington, DC, themed Opening New Horizons in Trade, to promote Vietnam’s spice industry to US businesses and boost trade links between both nations' enterprises.

The event gathered more than 100 ASTA member businesses, the Vietnam Coffee-Cocoa Association, and Vietnamese import-export enterprises, along with representatives of the US Chamber of Commerce, the US-ASEAN Business Council, the US Grains Council, and trade and agricultural counselors from ASEAN embassies in the US.

In his opening speech, Vietnamese Ambassador to the US Nguyen Quoc Dung highlighted that Vietnam is the world’s third-largest spice supplier and processor, with annual export turnover exceeding US$1 billion. He noted that the industry is promoting green production and expanding raw material areas that meet major market standards, reflecting its commitment to food safety and sustainable development.

The year 2025 is particularly significant as Vietnam and the US celebrate the 30th anniversary of diplomatic relations, with trade, including spices, serving as a key driver of the partnership. The US is currently one of Vietnam’s largest spice markets, with black pepper as the main product and rising demand offering new opportunities for businesses from both countries.

The highlight of the event was remarks by ASTA President Kerri Goad-Berrios, who laid stress on its significance, especially amid unpredictable trade developments, adding that businesses must expand and seek new opportunities for cooperation and exchange.

To provide further insights, the Vietnam Trade Office in the US delivered a presentation on the spice sector’s prospects and opportunities, while also inviting US partners to attend the Vietnam International Pepper and Spice Outlook 2026 (VIPO 2026), scheduled for March 3-5, 2026, in central Da Nang city.

On the occassion, participants were treated to traditional Vietnamese dishes featuring signature spices, such as beef noodle soup (phở bò), fried spring rolls (nem rán), and fresh spring rolls (gỏi cuốn), alongside cultural music and dance performances. Guests also received gifts including organic pepper and other Vietnamese spice products from Pearl Group Corporation, a member of the Vietnam Pepper and Spice Association (VPSA).
