Vietnamese coffee exports earn over US$2 billion by mid-March
VOV.VN - Vietnam fetchedapproximately US$2.28 billion from exporting 406,637 tonnes of coffee by mid-March, marking a significant increase compared to the same period last year, according to Vietnam Customs.
This surge is largely due to a sharp rise in the country’s average coffee export price, which jumped from US$3,228 per tonne to US$5,614 per tonne.
Vietnam exported coffee to 36 major markets, many of which saw strong growth. Germany remained the largest importer, with turnover reaching US$278 million in the first two months of the year. Italy followed with US$171 million, while Japan, the United States, and Spain also recorded substantial increases. These five markets alone accounted for US$815 million in revenue, making up 37% of Vietnam’s total coffee exports.
During the reviewed period, exports to South Africa, Mexico, France, Poland, Malaysia, Thailand, the UK, and Algeria experienced notable growth. Meanwhile, shipments to Indonesia and Egypt declined.
Within the ASEAN region, exports to Laos, Cambodia, and the Philippines increased, whereas those to Myanmar and Singapore fell.
In 2024, Vietnam exported 1.34 million tonnes of coffee, generating US$5.62 billion. While volume decreased by 17.1% from the previous year, export value rose significantly due to higher prices. This marked the highest coffee export turnover recorded between 2013 and 2024, with average prices rising from US$2,613 per tonne in 2023 to US$4,177 per tonne in 2024.
