The Ministry of Industry and Trade (MoIT) has allowed businesses to import a further 50,000 tonnes of sugar in the quota of 2010.

The increase in sugar imports is due to the growing demand for sugar in the sunny weather while the domestic market is falling short of sugar.

Over the last few months, the price of sugar has doubled from VND11,000 per kilogram to VND20,000 per kilogram.

The MoIT forecasts sugar prices may decrease slightly in late March.
