Vietnam simultaneously launches and inaugurates 234 major projects nationwide

VOV.VN - Vietnam is to simultaneously launch and inaugurate 234 major projects valued at VND 3.4 quadrillion across 34 provinces and cities nationwide on December 19, marking one of the largest coordinated infrastructure and development initiatives in the country’s history.

The event will be held through a hybrid format combining direct ceremonies and online connections, linking 79 locations. It is organised to mark the 11th National Patriotic Emulation Congress and to welcome the 14th National Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam, while also sending a strong signal of renewed momentum for economic growth and long-term development.

According to the Ministry of Construction, the 234 projects include 148 newly launched projects and 86 projects inaugurated or opened to technical traffic. Among them, 38 are managed by ministries and central agencies, 39 by major state-owned corporations and economic groups, and 157 by localities. Total state funding accounts for approximately VND627 trillion, equivalent to 18% of total investment, while non-state capital contributes about VND2.79 quadrillion, reflecting strong participation from the private sector and other social resources.

At a meeting with relevant ministries and agencies on December 16, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh described the synchronised implementation of the projects as a politically and economically significant event, demonstrating Vietnam’s determination to accelerate growth, modernise infrastructure and create new development space in the coming years. He emphasised that large-scale, coordinated investment plays a crucial role in stimulating economic activity, improving connectivity, strengthening national competitiveness and laying a solid foundation for sustainable development.

Hanoi is selected as the central broadcast location, with the launch of the Olympic Sports Urban Complex Project in Thuong Phuc commune. Approved by the Hanoi People’s Council earlier this month, the project covers more than 9,000 hectares with a projected investment of over VND925 trillion, making it one of the largest urban development projects ever undertaken in Vietnam.

Designed as a multi-functional sports and services hub, the complex aims to meet international standards for hosting major regional and global sporting events. The main stadium and sports facilities are scheduled for completion by 2030, while the entire project is expected to be finalised by 2035.

On the same day, Hanoi will also launch several other strategically important projects, including the Red River landscape boulevard extending nearly 80 kilometers, integrating transport infrastructure with large-scale green and public spaces, as well as Metro Line No.5 connecting Van Cao with Hoa Lac. Additional projects include the redevelopment of parks along the To Lich River, a new road linking Gia Binh Airport with the capital, and a social housing project aimed at improving access to affordable housing and urban livability.

Across southern Vietnam, Long Thanh International Airport in Dong Nai province will mark a key milestone as Phase One operates its first flight after four years of construction. Covering an area of 1,810 hectares, the first phase is designed to handle 25 million passengers and 1.2 million tonnes of cargo annually, with commercial operations expected to begin in mid-2026. The airport is widely regarded as a strategic gateway that will reshape Vietnam’s aviation network and enhance its regional and global connectivity.

Other large-scale projects launched or inaugurated nationwide further highlight the exceptional scale of the event. These include the opening of the main section of the eastern North–South Expressway from Can Tho to Ca Mau, strengthening transport links in the Mekong Delta; the launch of a railway steel and special rail manufacturing project at the Dung Quat Economic Zone, seen as a cornerstone for developing Vietnam’s domestic railway industry; and the commencement of key expressways and urban rail projects in Lam Dong, Phu Quoc and other fast-growing regions. Major healthcare, cultural and tourism projects will also be inaugurated, reflecting a balanced approach to economic growth and social development.

The simultaneous implementation of 234 projects nationwide underscores Vietnam’s strong institutional capacity to mobilise resources at scale and coordinate development efforts across sectors and regions. It also sends a clear message to international investors and development partners about the country’s policy consistency, investment climate and long-term vision for modernisation.

As Vietnam prepares for a new era of development, the event is widely seen as a concrete demonstration of confidence, ambition and national unity, laying the groundwork for sustained growth and deeper integration into the global economy.
