Vietnam seek broader trade and investment co-operation with Ireland
VOV.VN - Vietnam desires to further expand and bolster links with Ireland in both trade and investment, especially in the fields of agriculture, IT, and pharmaceuticals.
This statement was made by Minister of Planning and Investment Nguyen Chi Dung during a recent meeting held with Minister of State at the Department of Justice of Ireland James Browne.
During the meeting, Minister Dung emphasized that although both sides have maintained a sound traditional friendship, their partnership in trade, investment, and other fields has remained modest and below the potential and expectation of the two countries.
The Vietnamese side therefore aspires to boost collaboration with Ireland in all fields, especially amid the changing situation with shaping and transforming trade and investment structures.
The nation is set to build a technical and incubation centre as part of efforts to support small and medium-sized enterprises in the northern region to improve the added value and competitiveness of Vietnamese agricultural and food products. This will be done whilst promoting the country’s agricultural sector’s growth and calling for Ireland’s support in building and developing the centre, he stated.
Regarding IT, the country wishes for Ireland’s co-operation in human resources training, as well as collaboration with the National Innovation Centre, Minister Dung said.
The official underlined the need for the two countries to concretize their partnership through specific projects and programmes which can ultimately benefit both sides.
In response, Minister Browne highlighted the similarities in history and culture between the two countries, as well as the abundant opportunities for both sides to beef up trade and investment ties, including collaboration in the fields of agriculture, information technology, and pharmaceuticals.
The Vietnamese side’s policy on restructuring the agricultural sector towards a hi-tech-based effective sector in association with carbon emission reduction, sustainable development, environmental protection, climate change adaption, and value chain enhancement, is also Ireland’s strength, he continued.
Minister Browne affirmed his nation’s readiness to co-operate alongside Vietnam in a multitude of fields that Minister Dung proposed, especially in agriculture.
He therefore suggested that the two sides define specific and core areas for discussion. He also expressed hope that more Irish agricultural products will enter the Vietnamese market moving forward.
