Vietnam scales back Autumn Fair finale to aid flood victims
The Ministry of Industry and Trade has proposed downsizing the closing ceremony of the first Autumn Fair 2025, citing the need for solidarity with flood-ravaged communities and a push for fiscal restraint amid recovery efforts.
In its urgent report sent to Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, the ministry said the downsized event will forgo fireworks, live TV and radio broadcasts, opting instead for a pre-recorded session to air later.
The in-person gathering at the Vietnam Exposition Centre will retain core rituals: an opening performance; remarks by Deputy Prime Minister Bui Thanh Son who heads the fair’s steering board; plus honours for standout contributors and two music performances themed “Autumn – Love for the Vietnamese Country and People”.
Following the PM’s appeal at the opening ceremony, nearly VND300 million (US$11,500) was collected for central localities battered by recent disasters as of October 29. The ministry urged state-owned enterprises to keep donating through the finale.
The Autumn Fair 2025 has attracted wide media attention, with more than 500 news reports and features published by central and local outlets and over 5 million online interactions across digital platforms.
It secured over 100 cooperation deals and memoranda of understanding (MoUs) between Vietnamese companies and global partners on investment, trade, technology transfer, supply chain development, and exports, opening new opportunities for Vietnam’s economic integration.
