Vietnam ranks third among Singapore’s largest seafood suppliers

VOV.VN - Vietnam retained its position as Singapore’s third largest seafood supplier in 2025, with exports valued at SGD125.5 million, accounting for 10.3% of the city-state’s seafood import market, according to the Vietnam Trade Office in Singapore.

Vietnam’s seafood shipments to Singapore were mainly driven by chilled and frozen fish fillets and fish meat, along with processed and unprocessed crustaceans, the trade office said.

Currently, chilled, frozen fish fillets and fish meat represent the highest-value Vietnamese seafood export category to Singapore. Imports in this segment hit SGD63 million in 2025, up 4.8% year on year, and accounting for 29.7% of Singapore’s total imports in the category. Vietnamese products continue to hold a dominant position in this segment.

Vietnam also recorded significant values in two other seafood categories imported into Singapore. Processed and unprocessed crustaceans brought back SGD 28.6 million, accounting for 9.8% of the market, while processed and unprocessed molluscs reached SGD15.8 million, with a 11.4% market share. Both categories posted strong growth in 2025, rising 25.4% and 35.8%, respectively, from a year earlier.

Malaysia and Indonesia were Singapore’s largest and second-largest seafood suppliers in 2025, with import values of SGD159.5 million and SGD139.1 million, respectively. These figures represent market shares of 13.1% and 11.4% of Singapore’s total seafood imports.

Looking ahead, the Vietnam Trade Office said Singapore’s seafood import market is expected to be broadly stable in size. Vietnam is likely to maintain a strong foothold in chilled and frozen fish fillets and fish meat, but will face intensifying competition in other categories, particularly crustaceans and molluscs, from regional suppliers such as Malaysia and Indonesia, as well as major exporters including China, Japan, and Norway.

In recent years, Vietnamese seafood has made notable gains in the Singapore market. In 2024, Vietnam surpassed Japan for the first time and maintained its position as Singapore’s fifth largest seafood export partner for 12 consecutive months. In the first quarter of 2025, Vietnam continued its upward trajectory by overtaking China to become Singapore’s fourth largest supplier. Supported by strong export performance throughout 2025, Vietnam ultimately secured its position as Singapore’s third largest seafood supplier, behind only Malaysia and Indonesia.

This marks a notable rise from sixth to third place, highlighting the effectiveness of Vietnam’s efforts to expand its presence in the Singapore seafood market.

According to the Vietnam Trade Office in Singapore, data from Singapore’s Accounting and Corporate Regulatory Authority show that the city-state’s total seafood imports from global markets hit SGD1.2 billion in 2025, up 4.2% from 2024.
