Vietnam is listed among the 30 largest exporters to the US, according to 2007 statistics released by the US International Trade Commission (USITC).
The country has been among the top five in terms of garment and textile exports to the US, estimated at US$4.29 billion for three consecutive years.
The Ministry of Industry and Trade (MoIT) has forecast that Vietnam’s garment and textile exports to the US will reach US$5.4 billion in 2008 to rank second only to China.
Despite facing the US monitoring mechanism and lacking seaports, Vietnam has steadily increased its export turnover by nearly 30 percent year on year, achieving the highest growth rate compared with other East Asian economies having large exports to the same market.
