Vietnam has secured fourth place in the world’s rankings in terms of tourism growth with a rate of more than 30 percent, just behind Sri Lanka, Saudi Arabia and Israel.

According to the World Tourism Organisation’s latest report, by the end of April, 2010, only a few countries in the world had recorded a two-digit tourism growth rate. France was among the ten countries that attracted the largest number of tourists, says the report.

Malaysia’s Star Online newspaper quoted the Malaysian Minister of Tourism as saying that Vietnam and Cambodia are emerging as strong competitors in Asian tourism.

Recent statistics by the Vietnam Administration of Tourism (VNAT) revealed that Vietnam received about 432,600 foreign visitors in April, up 31.3 percent over the same period last year. The country is expected to attract 1.8 million international tourists in 2010, 35 percent more than last year.
