Vietnam surpassed the Philippines to rank fourth among South East Asian nations in wooden furniture exports, followed by Malaysia, Indonesia and Thailand.

Vietnam held 0.78 percent of the world’s market share, higher than the Philippines’ market share of 0.24 percent. China remains the leading wooden furniture supplier in the world with 11.9 percent of market share, according to the Vietnam Timber and Forest Product Association (Vietfores).

In the first seven months of the year, Vietnam has earned more than US$1.2 billion from exporting wooden furniture, exceeding the set targets for 2010.

Vietfores forecasts that Vietnam’s wooden furniture exports will continue to increase in the coming years as Japan, France, Germany and the US have shown interest in
Vietnam’s wooden furniture products. Meanwhile, local enterprises tend to co-operate with each other to secure export markets and fill large orders from international partners.
