Vietnam pushes for deeper aviation ties with China’s COMAC

VOV.VN - Chairman of the Commercial Aircraft Corporation of China (COMAC) He Dongfeng and Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh have expressed support for stronger ties between the Chinese aircraft manufacturer and Vietnamese airlines.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh hosted a reception on April 14 in Hanoi for He Dongfeng, Chairman of the Commercial Aircraft Corporation of China (COMAC).

Welcoming the COMAC leader and his delegation to Vietnam, PM Chinh noted that the visit coincided with the State visit of Party General Secretary and President of China Xi Jinping as a contribution to substantive and meaningful outcomes for the visit and to Vietnam–China relations as a whole.

He highlighted that COMAC, a Chinese state-owned enterprise, operates numerous research, development, and manufacturing facilities for modern aircraft across China, and plays a central role in implementing the country’s national large aircraft program.

He hailed the strong partnership between COMAC and Vietjet Air and expressed hope for broader cooperation with other Vietnamese carriers in the time ahead. He said that the planned operation of two C909 aircraft on the Hanoi–Con Dao and Ho Chi Minh City–Con Dao routes will further deepen practical cooperation between Vietnam and China.

To facilitate COMAC’s entry into the Vietnamese market, the Vietnamese cabinet leader called for the company to deal with relevant legal procedures, while also proposing its support for Vietnam’s aviation sector, particularly in exploring aerospace and aviation-related economic opportunities. He expressed a desire to enhance soft-border connectivity, expand air routes, and build a high-tech ecosystem. In today’s global context, he said, the two countries should support one another, share experience, and jointly unlock new growth drivers.

He voiced confidence that the COMAC Chairman’s visit will lay a solid foundation for broader cooperation between COMAC and Vietjet, as well as other Vietnamese airlines.

For his part, He Dongfeng thanked PM Chinh for the warm welcome and praised his efforts in promoting Vietnam–China ties. He also appreciated Chinh’s support in advancing COMAC’s cooperation with Vietnamese partners, particularly in improving the legal framework to allow its aircraft to operate in Vietnam.

Agreeing with the host leader’s insights on global trends, He Dongeng said he was impressed by the vitality, openness, and resilience he had seen across Vietnam under the leadership of the Communist Party and the Government. He expressed confidence that the already great country of Vietnam would grow even greater.

Sharing the company’s development journey, he noted that in just 17 years, COMAC had grown into a major global aircraft manufacturer.

Echoing PM Chinh’s remarks, he hoped for continued support in expanding COMAC’s partnership with Vietnamese firms, not only in air transport but also in the broader development of Vietnam’s aviation industry.
