The Ministry of Planning and Investment held a seminar in Hanoi on May 22 to discuss establishment of a general confederation of economic organisations.

Participants in the seminar agreed that it is necessary to establish a non-governmental organisation linking big businesses to obtain higher efficiency in trade and investment co-operation.

Deputy Minister of Planning and Investment Nguyen Bich Dat said that once the general confederation is set up it will collect ideas from businesses and associations on obstacles to investment and production activities in various fields such as finance, banking, trade, industry, land, labour and social affairs, propose measures to promote the development of businesses and create an effective and equitable business environment.

Participants said that the model of economic general confederation is being implemented effectively in ASEAN countries, the Republic of Korea, France, Japan, and Germany. However, Vietnam should carefully consider the formation of such a confederation in order to avoid conflicts with other established associations.
