Vietnam, Japan to revolutionize agriculture
(VOV) - The Japanese agricultural sector eagerly wants to cooperate with Vietnam in updating and installing the latest industry technologies, said Kennichi Takashima, President of Japan Farm Machinery Manufacturers' Association (JFMMA).
Takashima made the statement on November 14 in Hanoi at a Vietnam-Japan trade exchange conference held as part of the ongoing 14th International Agriculture Trade Fair (AgroViet 2014).
Takashima said the JFMMA has revolutionized agriculture in China and Thailand by assisting with the installation of modernized technologies and expressed hope that a similar outcome would result in Vietnam.State-of-the-art agricultural machinery and equipment would assist in reducing manual labour hours for farmers and provide a much needed boost to productivity.
Through AgroViet 2014, Vietnamese agriculture enterprises have gained insight into ways to increase agro-forestry-fishery exports and it has offered an opportunity for Japanese and Vietnamese enterprises to seek cooperation partners, Takashima concluded.
Over the years, Japan has been a key provider of Official Development Assistance (ODA) to Vietnam and has actively assisted Vietnam in transferring technology and training officials in many fields.
The Japanese market has a great demand for the import of agro-forestry-fishery products. In the first eight months of this year alone, exports to Japan reached over US$9.7 billion, up 10.7% compared to last year’s corresponding period.
