Vietnam imports over 56,000 CBU cars in first quarter of 2026

VOV.VN - Imports of completely built-up (CBU) cars into Vietnam rose in the first quarter of 2026, led by trucks, pointing to recovering demand for freight transport and business activity. Indonesia, China and Thailand remained the three largest suppliers.

Data released by Vietnam Customs show that imports reached 25,255 units in March 2026, up 56.9% from the previous month, with inbound shipments increasing  sharply.

In the first quarter, Vietnam imported 56,012 CBU cars, up 21% year-on-year. Trucks accounted for most of the increase, alongside higher demand for freight transport and improving production and business activity.

Passenger cars with fewer than nine seats totaled 36,388 units, accounting for about 65% of total imports, broadly unchanged from a year earlier, indicating stable consumer demand.

By source, imports throughout the reviewed period  mainly came from Indonesia, China and Thailand. Indonesia led with 23,402 units, up 27.5%. Imports from China reached 17,168 units, up 74.5%, the highest growth rate, while those from Thailand stood at 13,077 units, down 18.7% year-on-year.
