Vietnam holds AFA 24 focusing on green and sustainable finance
VOV.VN - The Vietnam Association of Accountants and Auditors (VAA) held a press briefing in Hanoi on October 27 on the 24th Conference of the ASEAN Federation of Accountants ((AFA 24) and the 141st AFA Council Meeting, which will take place over October 30-31.
Vietnam is honored to host this major international event as chair of the ASEAN Federation of Accountants (AFA) for the 20242025 term, aiming to promote green accounting and sustainable finance in the region.
This year’s conference carries the theme “ Green Finance and Accounting - Shaping a Sustainable Future” focusing on green accounting, sustainability reporting (ESG), green finance models, and the role of technology in sustainable development.
The event features three in-depth discussion sessions with international experts from the International Federation of Accountants (IFAC), the ASEAN Federation of Accountants (AFA), the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA), the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW), CPA Australia, the Big Four audit firms (Deloitte, PwC, EY, KPMG), and the World Bank.
At the press briefing, Prof. Dr. Doan Xuan Tien, President of the ASEAN Federation of Accountants and Chairman of VAA, emphasized: “The 24th AFA Summit comes at a time when the world faces numerous environmental, social, and economic challenges. The theme "Green Finance and Accounting - Shaping a Sustainable Future"sends a strong and urgent message to the business community, institutions, and society. Adopting green accounting and sustainability reporting not only enhances corporate transparency and social responsibility but also generates long-term value, attracts investment, and contributes to sustainable economic development.”
He added that the summit will provide an important platform for ASEAN member states to beef up cooperation, share experience, and exchange best practices in accounting and finance. “For Vietnam, actively participating in AFA activities will help us integrate more deeply into the global economy, develop sustainable business models, and affirm the position of Vietnam’s accounting and auditing profession on the international stage,” Prof. Dr. Doan Xuan Tien stressed.
A highlight of the event will be the handover of the AFA chairmanship from Vietnam (2024-2025) to Indonesia (2026-2027), marking a milestone in regional cooperation and commitment to raising professional standards. The summit is expected to attract over 2,500 delegates from ASEAN member states, international organizations, management agencies, businesses, and professional associations.
Alongside the main sessions, the event will feature side activities such as exhibitions showcasing domestic and international professional organizations and businesses, a gala dinner, and a cultural tour of the Ho Guom area, thus enhancing networking opportunities and promoting Vietnam as a friendly, globally engaged host.
With the message “Go Green, Grow Sustainable,” the AFA 2025 Summit is expected to become a leading regional forum, promoting the application of green accounting, sustainable finance, and digital transformation, while helping shape policy and strengthen the competitiveness of Vietnamese businesses in the green economic transition.
