The Vietnam Textile and Apparel Association (Vitas) has welcomed the results of the US Department of Commerce (DOC)’s second review of garment and apparel imports from Vietnam on May 6.

The association said the DOC has found Vietnam did not dump its textiles and apparels in the US and its products have not influenced local producers.

Vitas says while the DOC import monitoring mechanism is contrary to the World Trade Organisation (WTO) principles and has impacted on bilateral trade relations, Vietnamese government agencies and the textile and apparel sector have maintained all necessary self-control measures.

Meanwhile, they have boosted cooperation with the US Association of Industries, Importers and Retailers to lobby against the monitoring mechanism.

Vitas has called on the US to end Vietnam’s garment import monitoring mechanism, or at least limit its scale, and to put forward clear monitoring criteria so Vietnamese exporters can focus on production and US importers and retailers can properly plan to import Vietnamese products.
