Vietnam exerts more efforts in TPP negotiations

(VOV) - Vietnam is always desirous of boosting all-around cooperation with the US, primarily in trade and investment, National Assembly (NA) Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung told visiting US Trade Representative Michael Froman in Hanoi on October 21.

The NA strongly supports negotiations to reach the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) Agreement between Vietnam and the US in line with the two peoples’ expectations, Hung said.

Froman suggested both nations make greater efforts to finalize the TPP soon, adding that the agreement will open a new chapter in economic and political relations between the two countries.

The US wants the National Assembly and relevant ministries to back the amendment of related laws to assure the successful enforcement of the TPP, Froman told the Vietnamese top legislator.

Meeting the US trade official the same day, Deputy PM Vu Van Ninh confirmed Vietnam’s sustained efforts in completing the Trans Pacific Partnership Agreement (TPP) negotiations and working hand in hand with the US to overcome any difficulties in the negotiation process.

Ninh also expressed conviction that the US and TPP member countries will take into account the development gap to adapt to the different conditions of countries with lower development levels. He urged for more concentration on Vietnam’s vital interests in garments and textiles, and leather and footwear.
