Vietnam emerges as Asia’s economic driver in 2025, says Cuban media

VOV.VN - Cuba’s Cubavisión Internacional television channel recently aired a nearly 30-minute segment analyzing Vietnam’s impressive economic progress, describing the country as one of the fastest-growing economies in Asia.

According to Cubavisión Internacional, in 2024, Vietnam became the second-largest economy in the region and is on track to break export records in 2025. These developments have not only consolidated Vietnam’s geopolitical position but also compelled the West to take serious note of the Communist Party of Vietnam’s governance model.

In the program “Vietnam – Asia’s economic driver in 2025,” Professor Ruvislei González Sáez of the Center for International Political Research (CIPI) emphasized that, despite global turbulence, Vietnam has maintained stability thanks to its multilateral foreign policy and long-term strategic vision. He stated, “Vietnam has evolved from a poor country in the 1980s into a middle-income economy, with the aim of becoming a developed, high-income nation by 2045.”

A crucial factor underpinning this transformation is Vietnam’s adaptability in the face of external challenges, such as tariff policies under US President Donald Trump. Professor Ruvislei explained that Vietnam took proactive steps to diversify markets, stepped up investment in the US, and expanded ties with Latin America to reduce reliance on any single partner.

The program also examined Vietnam–US relations, noting that 2025 marks the 30th anniversary of the normalization of bilateral ties – a milestone that illustrates the progress achieved despite ongoing differences.

Cubavisión Internacional also observed Europe’s growing emphasis on its relationship with Vietnam. The recent visit by Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez and the signing of cooperation agreements highlighted the strong potential for partnership. The program noted that Vietnam is becoming an increasingly important partner for Europe, not only in economic terms but also within the broader geopolitical context.

With an annual growth rate exceeding 7% in 2024, Vietnam continues to strengthen its role as a standout performer in the region. Cubavisión Internacional concluded that Vietnam exemplifies a remarkable transformation, fueled by determined leadership, a sustainable development roadmap, and the capacity to leverage global challenges as opportunities.

As a prominent international broadcaster known for its in-depth analyses of global political and economic issues, particularly from the perspective of developing countries, Cubavisión Internacional’s attention to Vietnam underscores the growing international recognition of the Southeast Asian nation’s influence.
