Vietnam, Cyprus vow to promote economic bond

(VOV) - The Republic of Cyprus has committed to expanding economic cooperation with Vietnam and speeding up the ratification of both the EU-Vietnam Partnership and Cooperation Agreement (PCA) and the Free Trade Agreement (FTA) with the EU.

Representatives from the Cyprus Government made the affirmations on November 13-14 at meetings with a visiting Vietnamese delegation headed by Deputy Minister of Planning and Investment Nguyen Chi Dung.

During the meetings, both sides discussed measures to strengthen bilateral cooperation in prioritized areas such as economics, trade, investment, tourism and labour.

They agreed to co-organise seminars and talks on promoting investment, trade and tourism activities and business exchanges as part of activities celebrating  the 40th anniversary of diplomatic ties next year.

The two countries also consented to boost closer collaboration and offer mutual support at multilateral and international forums. The Republic of Cyprus pledged to support Vietnam’s candidature as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council for the 2020-2021 term.

Representatives of the Cyprus Government expressed delight that the fine traditional friendship between the two nations will grow and flourish in the future.

The Republic of Cyprus and Vietnam officially established diplomatic ties in 1975 and bilateral ties have seen vigorous growth through regular visit exchanges  and active support for  issues of shared concern.
