In 2007, Vietnam provided Germany with 234,000 tonnes of coffee, second only to Brazil (288,000 tonnes), according to the figures released by the German Federal Statistical Office.
The office reported that Germany’s coffee and tea imports increased by 33 percent from 2000-2007. Last year, the country bought a total of 1.1 million tonnes of coffee worth 2 billion Euros , up 31.5 percent in volume and 24 percent in value.

The office said coffee is a popular drink of the German people who consumed up to 13kg on average in 2007.
