Vietnam and Western Australia seek deeper cooperation in green economy
VOV.VN - Vietnam and Western Australia agreed to strengthen cooperation in science, technology and sustainable development at a forum in Perth on December 3, with both sides identifying green economy, renewable energy, sustainable agriculture, modern mining and digital transformation as priority areas.
At the Western Australia–Vietnam Forum, University of Western Australia (UWA) Senior Deputy Vice-Chancellor Tim Colmer viewed cooperation with Vietnam as a strategic priority. Meanwhile, Vietnamese Deputy Foreign Minister Nguyen Minh Vu highlighted the growing importance of the Vietnam–Australia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, particularly in science, technology and innovation for sustainable development.
Discussion sessions featured updates on Australia’s energy transition, low-emission technologies and green-economy models. Curtin University’s Professor Peta Ashworth presented Australia’s energy roadmap, while Bellevue Gold, the first net-zero gold producer in Western Australia, shared its transition experience.
UWA’s Assistant Professor Amin Mugera outlined smart agriculture solutions, low-emission crops and methane-free livestock systems with strong cooperation potential for Vietnam.
Vietnamese delegates discussed policy frameworks, digital governance, renewable energy, sustainable mining and climate-adapted agriculture, identifying multiple areas for future joint projects. The forum also enabled officials and experts to better understand Western Australia’s technological capabilities and emerging policy directions.
The organisers said the event served as an important bridge connecting government agencies, research institutions, universities and businesses from both countries, supporting Vietnam in defining new cooperation pillars as both sides expand science, technology and innovation ties. The forum underscored green growth, sustainable development and digital transformation as promising future drivers of the Vietnam–Australia partnership.
The Western Australia–Vietnam Forum was co-hosted by the Vietnamese Consulate General, the UWA Asia Centre, the Vietnam–Australia Scholars and Experts Association (VASEA) and the Australia–Vietnam Talent Network (AVTN). The event brought together policymakers, academics and businesses from both countries.
