Vietnam and Austria increase cooperation in high technology, innovation
VOV.VN - A large number of experts, policy makers and representatives of leading technology enterprises from Vietnam and Austria attended a forum on high technology and innovation cooperation in Vienna on May 16.

The forum, hosted by the Embassy of Vietnam in Austria, in collaboration with Vietnam National Innovation Center and the Austrian Economic Chambers, aims to promote strategic cooperation in core technologies, innovation, and digital transformation, in order to build a sustainable technology ecosystem between the two countries.
The gathering featured the participation of leading Austrian technology corporations such as Infineon Technologies Austria, Dynatrace, TTTech, EV Group, and Silicon Austria Labs, along with prominent Vietnamese enterprises including FPT, VNPT, Genetica, and Sovico.
In his online speech at the event, Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Chi Dung stated that after more than 50 years of friendly relations, Vietnam and Austria are now important trading partners in the ASEAN and European regions, serving as a foundation for the two countries to further expand cooperation in various other fields in the future.
He also expressed his admiration for Austria’s achievements in core technologies, foundational technologies, quantum science, biotechnology, semiconductors, and artificial intelligence (AI).
The Deputy PM highlighted the Vietnamese Government’s strong commitment to strategically guiding the development of an innovation ecosystem. He also emphasised Vietnam’s dedication to promoting international technological cooperation in pursuit of sustainable development and global integration goals.
Science, technology, and innovation are key drivers for economic growth and critical in achieving Vietnam’s goal of becoming a high-income developed country by 2045, he stressed.

To promote science, technology, and innovation, he said, Vietnam is focusing on removing institutional barriers, investing in infrastructure, and training human resources. These efforts aim to meet development needs in the new context, while also accelerating digital transformation across the entire economy and strengthening international cooperation.
He proposed four key areas of cooperation between Vietnam and Austria, focusing on developing key industries such as AI, semiconductors, quantum technology, biotechnology, alongside establishing research and development centres and training programmes.
He underscored the importance of enhancing innovation and digital transformation capacity for small and medium-sized enterprises; developing green energy cooperation programmes, and fostering private-public partnerships and startup incubation through innovation hubs.
The Deputy PM called on Austria’s government, universities, and research institutions to support Vietnamese students with scholarships, back innovative startups, and help build a network of experts and scientists for joint research and technology advancement.
Speaking at the gathering, Vietnamese Ambassador to Austria Vu Le Thai Hoang highlighted Vietnam’s emergence as a potential market with a clear and strong orientation toward high-tech development. He cited Resolution 57/NQ-TW of the Politburo, which prioritises investment in fields such as AI, big data, semiconductors, microchips, automation, biotechnology, blockchain, Internet of Things (IoT), and 5G/6G.
“With a population of over 100 million, a young, tech-savvy demographic, and a strategic position as the 'gateway' to Southeast Asia, Vietnam is becoming an attractive destination for global technology corporations," said the ambassador.
Austrian Ambassador to Vietnam Philipp Agathonos and representatives of the Austrian Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs, Energy and Tourism extended congratulations on the forum’s success and affirmed Austria’s commitment to advancing bilateral cooperation in high technology and innovation.
