Vietnam among the World’s fastest growing electric motorcycle markets

VOV.VN - Vietnam is among the fastest-growing electric motorcycle markets alongside China, India, and Turkey, making a significant contribution to the overall global electric motorcycle market expansion, according to Motorcycles Data.

Despite fluctuations in incentive policies in many countries, Vietnam’s electric motorcycle market is experiencing explosive growth.

Statiostics show electric motorcycle sales in Vietnam surged by 99.2% in the first half of 2025 compared to the same period last year, continuing the success of 2024 with 209,000 units sold.

The main drivers are the planned ban on fossil fuel-powered motorcycles in certain areas of major cities and aggressive promotional campaigns from manufacturers.

Notably, VinFast recorded the most impressive growth rate and made it into the top 10 largest electric motorcycle manufacturers in the world.

Welwhere, global sales of two-wheeled electric motorcycles reached 4.4 million units in the first half of this year worldwide, up 7.2% year on year.

China continues to dominate the market, accounting for 73% of total global sales. After three consecutive years of decline, sales in China rebounded by 4.0%, with leading electric motorcycle brands pushing for international expansion.

India ranks second with a 9.1% increase, led by domestic brand TVS Motor, which has overtaken Ola Electric and Ather. Turkey is in fourth place with sales rising 37.4%, while its petrol motorcycle market has stagnated.

Indonesia is the major negative outlier, with sales plummeting 32.2% after the government ended incentives at the end of 2024, creating challenges for many new market entrants.

Although some major markets have tightened support policies, the global outlook remains positive as the shift toward green transportation continues to spread.
