Vietnam, Algeria push for practical trade and investment cooperation

VOV.VN - Vietnam’s Trade Counselor in Algeria has emphasized that Vietnam values its partnership with Algeria and and stands ready to facilitate business connections, trade promotion, delegation exchanges, and investment between the two countries.

As part of efforts to strengthen economic ties, the Vietnam Trade Office in Algeria on June 18 paid a working visit to Tipaza province, where it met with the local Chamber of Commerce and Industry and leading Algerian businesses.

At the meeting, both sides explored opportunities for trade and investment cooperation, highlighting high-potential areas such as high-tech agriculture, agro-processing, marine aquaculture, and tourism.

Maâmar-Djellal Serandi, president of the Chenoua–Tipaza Chamber of Commerce and Industry, said the visit offered a valuable chance for Algerian businesses to better understand Vietnam’s market and investment climate. He voiced interest in deeper cooperation with Vietnamese partners and requested more information on Vietnam’s investment policies, market access, and trade procedures.

Serandi proposed the early establishment of a Vietnam–Algeria Business Council to serve as a channel for structured trade promotion and business exchange. He also suggested exploring the launch of a direct flight route to enhance connectivity and reduce logistics costs.

The Tipaza side expressed interest in joining the Vietnam International Sourcing 2025 fair in Ho Chi Minh City this September and showed a willingness to cooperate on joint ventures in food processing, pharmaceuticals, steel, and furniture production.

On behalf of Vietnam, Trade Counselor Hoang Duc Nhuan presented an overview of Vietnam’s economic priorities and affirmed support for deeper trade and investment ties. The Vietnamese side also showcased export products such as tea, coffee, spices, desiccated coconut, and cashew nuts, and encouraged Algerian firms to attend Vietnam’s key international trade fairs.

According to Vietnam Customs, bilateral trade reached US$220 million in 2024 and topped US$280 million in the first five months of 2025, indicating growing momentum.
