US$3.2 bln oil refinery project starts construction in Phu Yen

(VOV) -A groundbreaking ceremony was held on September 9 for a US$3.2 billion oil refinery project at Hoa Tan industrial park in the central coastal province of Phu Yen.

Covering 538ha, the foreign-invested project is the largest of its kind in Phu Yen and the third biggest in Vietnam at present.

With a design capacity of churning out 8 million tonnes per year, the refinery aims to process and distribute polypropylene, benzene, petrol RON 92 & 95, jet fuel, diesel, FO and other petrochemical products.

More than 900 households have to move to other places to provide land for the project, which is expected to stimulate local socio-economic development.

Vice Chairman of the Phu Yen provincial People’s Committee Le Van Truc said Vung Ro is a landmark project in the locality and he asked investors to ensure the project is undertaken on schedule.
