The US will provide US$9 million in technical assistance to help Vietnam fulfil the remaining commitments to the Bilateral Trade Agreement (BTA) and commitments to the World Trade Organisation (WTO).

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to this effect was signed in Hanoi on November 16 by Vice Chairman of the Government Office Nguyen Quoc Huy and US Ambassador to Vietnam Michael Marine.

The new assistance funds a Support for Trade Acceleration II (STAR) project which will assist the Vietnamese Government’s continued efforts to meet BTA and WTO commitments. It will also provide specialised economic and legal training to strengthen Vietnam’s economic management.

STAR II project will be carried out in three years from 2007 and will be extended to 2011.
