US increases pepper imports from Vietnamese market

VOV.VN - Vietnam's pepper market share in total US imports increased from 66.6% during the past 11 months of 2020 to 68.25% in the same period of 2021.

According to the US International Trade Commission's statistics cited by the Import-Export Department under the Ministry of Industry, US pepper imports throughout the reviewed period  reached 85.16 thousand tons, worth US$318.4 million , up 5.7% in volume and 38.3% in value over the same period of 2020.

The average import price of US pepper stood at US$3,739/ton, up 30.8% over the same period from 2020, while the average import price of US pepper surged from most of main sources, excluding China which dropped by 20.2% to US$4,247 per ton.

The past 11 months of last year saw the US increase pepper imports from most of its main sources, except Brazil.

Statistics from the United States International Trade Commission show that during the 11month period, the US imported 58.1 thousand tons of pepper from Vietnam, valued at US$211.47 million, up 8.3% in volume and 45% in value over last year's same period.

In terms of pepper supply structure to the US, the Vietnamese pepper industry plays an important role.
