US businesses want to invest in Vietnam for the long term, raising investment to a new level equal to the potential of US businesses and the US economy, said President of the US-ASEAN Business Council (USABC), Matthew Daley.

The USABC President is currently leading a delegation of entrepreneurs from 24 major US groups on a visit to Vietnam.

At a meeting with permanent member of the Party Central Committee’s Secretariat Truong Tan Sang on May 7, Mr Daley praised Vietnam’s recent social economic changes and the fine development of Vietnam-US relations.

Mr Sang welcomed the US enterprises to invest in Vietnam, saying the Vietnamese Party and Government have created favourable conditions for foreign investors to run business operations in the country.

The Party official highly appreciated the US-ASEAN Business Council’s arrangement of visits for US business delegations to explore opportunities in Vietnam and its efforts to accelerate the two countries’ economic, commercial and investment ties.

Speaking at a press conference the same day, Mr Daley said: “US businesses don’t come to Vietnam to make their profit in a few months and then leave”.

“Their horizon is a horizon that is not measured in weeks and months but years, decades and even generations”.

According to the USABC President, Vietnam is becoming a great destination for American businesses and US companies are optimistic about business prospects in Vietnam.

Mr Daley’s view was shared by Chairman of the USABC’s US-Vietnam Business Committee, Stuart Dean, who said US companies are also interested in building factories and infrastructure in Vietnam.

Mr Dean said enterprises are seeking partners for production and exports in their global operations and to transfer advanced technologies in the fields of energy, aviation and information technology. About half of the business delegations visiting Vietnam have been investing in Vietnam, he added.

According to the Chairman, the Vietnam visit from May 5-7 by the largest-ever American companies mission illustrates US businesses’ interest in Vietnam.
