US becomes largest consumer of Vietnam’s agro-forestry-fishery products

VOV.VN - The United States surpassed China to become the largest export market for Vietnam’s agricultural, forestry, and fishery products in the first eight months of this year, according to the Ministry of Agriculture, Rural and Development (MARD).

MARD statistics show the United States spent US$8.58 billion importing those Vietnamese products in eight months, accounting for 21.4% of Vietnam’s total export value of the products, and representing a year-on-year increase of 23.5%.

China dropped to second position, purchasing US$8.17 billion worth of the products from Vietnam, representing an increase of 10.2% year on year.

Japan was the third largest consumer, with a revenue of US$2.68 billion, an increase of 4.6% year on year.

Overall, the past eight months saw Vietnam rake in US$40.08 billion from the export of agricultural, forestry, and fishery products, up 18.6% year on year.

Of the total, agricultural products brought back US$21.32 billion, up 24%; forestry products US$10.97 billion, up 19.7%; fishery products US$$6.23 billion, up 7.6%; and livestock products US$324 million, up 0.3%.

The export value of these products to various markets increased, with exports to Asia reaching US$19 billion (up 15.7%); the Americas US$9.3 billion (up 22.3%); Europe US$4.8 billion (up 30.5%); Africa US$747 million (up 5.5%); and Oceania US$563 million (up 12.8%).

In 2023, China was the largest export market for Vietnam’s agricultural, forestry, and fishery products, accounting for 23.2% of the total export value of these products.
