US agribusiness groups plan Vietnam trips to boost trade ties
VOV.VN - US agribusiness groups plan to visit Vietnam twice this year to explore cooperation in biotechnology, crop development and biofuels, according to US Deputy Secretary of Agriculture Stephen Vaden.
Receiving Vietnam’s Acting Ministry of Industry and Trade Le Manh Hung in Washington DC on February 3, Vaden revealed two delegations of US agricultural agencies and companies are expected to travel to Vietnam in March and November 2026, to explore cooperation opportunities.
The delegations will include representatives from US states and major agricultural firms, with a focus on biotechnology, seeds, agricultural processing, sustainable resource management and biofuel production, Vaden said.
Hung, who was in Washington DC for the sixth round of talks on a reciprocal and balanced trade agreement between the two countries, said Vietnam is ready to facilitate the visits, connect businesses from both sides and support the rollout of concrete cooperation projects.
Vietnam is also seeking to expand expert exchanges, technology transfer and workforce training in high-tech agriculture, he told his host.
On tariffs, Hung said agricultural trade between the two countries is largely complementary rather than directly competitive.
Vietnam has cut import duties to zero on most US agricultural products and has signed a document on the purchase of US$3 billion worth of US farm goods during 2025–2028.
He proposed that the US support the expansion of the list of Vietnamese agricultural products eligible for zero reciprocal tariffs.
