Turkey levies anti-dumping taxes on Chinese steel

(VOV) - Turkey has concluded an anti-dumping investigation against China and Taiwan steel exporters and will begin imposing import tariffs in early 2015, the Vietnam Competition Authority (VCA) reports.

The results of the probe announced on December 19, essentially found that Chinese and Taiwanese companies imported steel pressure pipes from Vietnam and Malaysia and then exported them to Turkey to avoid paying the proper amount of import tariffs.

In essence it was tax avoidance scheme that should most likely work to the benefit of Vietnam, a VCA representative said, noting that the imposition of higher import duties on Chinese steel should increase the competitiveness of Vietnamese steel.
