Toyota Vietnam appoints first Vietnamese chairman
VOV.VN - Toyota Motor Vietnam (TMV) has announced changes to its senior leadership effective from January 2026, marking the first time the company has appointed a Vietnamese national as chairman.
Tien Quoc Hao has been named chairman of Toyota Motor Vietnam, according to the company. Prior to this appointment, Hao served as Regional Vice President for Asia and Vice President of Financial Services at Toyota Motor Corp. He was also President of Toyota Asia, based in Singapore, and Chief Executive Officer of Toyota Financial Services Asia.
Hao joined Toyota Canada in 1999 and has since held a range of senior leadership roles in sales and marketing across multiple markets, including North America, Japan, China and other parts of Asia, working with both the Toyota and Lexus brands.
He holds a Bachelor of Applied Science in Electrical Engineering from the University of Waterloo, an MBA from the Richard Ivey School of Business, and a Chartered Director qualification from the DeGroote School of Business in Canada.
Meanwhile, Toyota Vietnam said Osamu Hirata will assume the role of Chief Executive Officer from January 2026, succeeding Nakano Keita, who served as CEO from February 2023 to December 2025.
Hirata joined Toyota Motor Corp. in 1995 after graduating from Waseda University and spent nearly nine years in the company’s International Business Planning Division. He was appointed Deputy Manager in 2004 before relocating to Singapore to serve as Deputy General Manager for Product Planning at Toyota Asia Pacific from 2005 to 2008.
He later held several senior roles in global and North American strategic planning, including Head of the North America Division and Senior Executive Coordinator at Toyota Motor North America.
From 2016, Hirata served as Vice President and held multiple leadership positions in sales planning and operations at Toyota Motor North America. Most recently, he was Vice President overseeing Toyota and Lexus sales operations in North America until 2023, before being appointed General Manager of Global Sales Operations and Planning at Toyota Motor Corp. in 2024.
