The GTel Global Telecommunications Corporation signed a contract with the Vimpel-Com group of Russia on July 8 to set up a joint-stock company providing telecommunications services.

Under the contract, GTel holds 60 percent of the new GTel Mobile joint-stock company and the Russian partner holds the remaining.

The signing ceremony was attended by Vietnam’s Minister of Public Security and Minister of Information and Communications Le Doan Hop and the Charge d’Affaires of the Russian Embassy.

Addressing the event, Deputy Minister of Public Security Dang Van Hieu said the joint-venture was part of a partnership strategy between Vietnam and Russia and is expected to contribute to promoting the traditional friendship between the two countries.

GTel executives said the joint-venture would provide its customers with all telecommunications services available in the market, ranging from landline to mobile phone networks, additional services, broad-band internet services, information security services, application software VOIP and Wimax.
