Soc Trang exports purple star apples to the US
VOV.VN - The southern province of Soc Trang has the chance to popularize its purple star apple globally as local businesses have registered to purchase the fruit from farmers for export to the United States.
Local businesses have signed a contract with Loc Mai Agricultural Cooperative in Ke Sach district to purchase purple star apples at a high price for export to the US.
Though it is just at the beginning of the harvest season, nearly 20 tonnes of the fruit have been harvested and exported to the US, revealed a representative of Loc Mai Agriculture Cooperative.
In Ke Sach district, there are more than 2,145 hectares of land under star apple cultivation, and three cooperatives are engaged in the consumption of the fruit with businesses.
The district has applied modern farming techniques to help farmers save production costs and ensure the fruit meets quality standards for export to various markets overseas, including the US – a demanding market for any commodity.
Currently Soc Trang has more than 28,500 hectares of land under fruit cultivation, with nearly two thirds in Ke Sach district. The province has zoned off 20 growing areas to meet the standards of organic and VietGAP production.
