Shrimp exports surge in 11 months, generating over US$4.3 billion

VOV.VN - The past 11 months saw Vietnam earn more than US$4.3 billion from shrimp exports, representing a year-on-year increase of 21%, according to the Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP).

The shrimp export value raised the country’s total seafood export earnings in the during the reviewed period at around US$10.5 billion, up 14.6% compared to the same period in 2024.

The positive outcome was attributed to the broad recovery of key export items, especially shrimp, along with rising demand in many major consumer markets.

In November alone, shrimp exports brought in approximately US$385 million, up nearly 12% year onyear. This improvement reflected the recovery trend of export orders after a previously sluggish period with consumers in many major markets spending again and importers replenishing their stock.

This year, the shrimp industry has experienced significant growth, primarily driven by white-leg shrimp and lobster. White-leg shrimp has continued to be the industry's main product thanks to their high output, competitive pricing and ability to meet a wide range of market demands. Meanwhile, the export value of lobster has increased significantly, particularly in Asian markets where demand for premium seafood products has risen sharply.

VASEP predicted that with the results achieved in the first 11 months, Vietnam’s shrimp exports in 2025 are likely to set a new record, hitting an estimated US$4.6 billion for the full year. Meanwhile, total seafood export revenue is forecast to hit between US$11.2 and 11.3 billion—the highest level ever recorded.

By market, China remained the standout performer, posting growth of 31% with export turnover at around US$2.23 billion. Rising consumption, particularly for white-leg shrimp and lobster, has established China as Vietnam’s fastest-growing seafood market this year.

Meanwhile, shrimp shipments to the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP) markets rose 24% to US$2.84 billion. Industry analysts attributed the growth to Vietnamese companies effectively utilising tariff preferences and benefiting from recovering demand across member countries.

Exports to Thailand surged 22% to US$1.6 million, while shipments to the European Union increased nearly 12%, reaching around US$1.1 billion.

In the US market, despite ongoing countervailing and anti-dumping duties, Vietnam’s seafood export revenue still edged up 8.1% to US$1.778 billion, reflecting the resilience and adaptability of Vietnamese exporters in navigating persistent trade barriers.

According to VASEP, the strong performance in shrimp exports not only signals a recovery in global demand but also highlights the sector’s enhanced capacity in production, processing, and compliance with international standards. This progress provides a solid foundation for Vietnam’s shrimp industry to maintain growth and strengthen its competitiveness in the global market in the years ahead.
