Seafood exporters consider Egypt as a potential market as its demand is forecast to rise by 10 percent over the next five years, according to the Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP).

VASEP said that Egypt’s rising demand for seafood is attributed to the country’s rising population and a greater number of foreign residents.

Egypt currently consumes roughly 1 million tonnes of seafood annually, of which 250,000 tonnes are imports.

According to VASEP, most Vietnamese seafood is imported to Egypt through foreign companies, so Vietnamese seafood trademarks in the market have remained unknown and unpopular. This means that domestic exporters must pay much more attention to trade promotions in order to penetrate the market.

The organization also suggested that domestic seafood exporters scrutinize Egypt’s quality regulations on imports as the seafood market is strictly monitored.
