The Republic of Korea (RoK) wants to be Vietnam’s strategic partner, said RoK ambassador to Vietnam Im Hong-Jae at a seminar on high-level policy dialogue held in Hanoi on March 4.

Speaking at the seminar, co-sponsored by the Development Strategy Institute (DSI) and the Korea Development Institute, Mr. Im added that Vietnamese and RoK policy makers are working together for the economic development of Vietnam.

DSI president Ngo Doan Vinh called the seminar a significant event that proposes important policies for the Vietnamese government in macro-economy, banking and finance, land use and industrial technology. It is expected to help Vietnam work out a more effective measures for its economic development, he said.

Workshop participants analyzed Vietnam’s development path and economic potential until 2020, assessed Vietnam’s economic development and major challenges, outlined financial and monetary policies for a stable, effective and sustainable development, and discussed an early warning system and risk management programme.

The seminar is part of an RoK project to help Vietnam apply RoK experience to its policy research.
