Retail sales hit four-year high
VOV.VN - Retail sales of goods and services maintained their upward trend during the first four months of the year and scaled the record peak seen over the past four years.

Newly-released statistics from the General Statistics Office of Vietnam show that the retail sales of goods was estimated at VND1.2 quadrillion (US$51.6 billion) during the four-month period, accounting for 76.8 per cent of the total and representing a 13.2 per cent on year.
Retail sales of consumer goods and services made a combined VND1.58 quadrillion (US$67.94 billion) during the first four months of the year, up 11.9 per cent on year. The four-month figure reached the peak seen over the past four years.
Notably, the sales of food and foodstuff enjoyed their highest growth with 14 per cent, while appliances, tools, and household equipment rose by 12.9 per cent. These categories were followed by garments and means of transport which enjoyed respective hikes of 12.4 per cent and 11.1 per cent. The revenues of cultural and educational items soared by 10.7 per cent.
Meanwhile, total revenues from accommodation and catering services grew by 9.2 per cent on year to rake in a total of VND187.4 trillion (US$8.05 billion), equivalent to 11.8 per cent of the overall figure.
Tourism revenues in the four-month period were forecast to reach VND14.9 trillion (US$640.7 million), or 0.9 per cent of the total and up 13.1 per cent on year. Revenues from other services reported an annual rise of 5.7 per cent to rack up VND165.6 trillion (US$7.12 billion), equal to 10.5 per cent of the total.
As for April, the retail sales of consumer goods and services reached VND400 trillion (US$17.2 billion), increasing by 2.3 per cent against March and 12 per cent on year.
Of the April figure, as many as VND306.6 trillion (US$13.18 billion) came from the sales of goods, rising by 2.2 per cent from the previous month and 13 per cent per annum, while VND47.7 trillion (US$2.05 billion) were contributed by accommodation and catering services, climbing by 9.9 per cent. Tourism revenues in particular jumped by 13.2 per cent to touch VND3.6 trillion (US$154.8 million).
