PVGas Trading declares force majeure over widespread LPG shortage risk
VOV.VN - PVGas Trading, a subsidiary of PetroVietnam Gas (PVGAS), has declared a force majeure situation and said it must adjust and delay imported liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) deliveries following the collapse of a loading jetty at a production facility and a missile attack on an LPG carrier from the Middle East.
The company said its international supplier officially declared force majeure on February 23, 2026 after a loading jetty collapsed at the NGL Juaymah facility operated by Saudi Aramco, one of Saudi Arabia’s largest energy and oil companies by scale and revenue. The incident disrupted the supply of contracted propane and butane cargoes.
PVGas Trading added that armed conflict in the Middle East is affecting the route of refrigerated LPG carriers passing through the Strait of Hormuz.
As of 3 p.m. on March 2, at least two very large gas carriers (VLGCs) had been hit by missiles while transiting the strait. In addition, several NGL and LPG production facilities of suppliers have been attacked and sustained serious damage.
For safety reasons, all VLGCs carrying refrigerated LPG from the Middle East under commitments from the second half of March through the end of April 2026 currently have no delivery schedule to PVGas Trading.
The force majeure situation requires the company to reduce the pace of import deliveries from now until March 10, 2026, and it is temporarily unable to arrange imported supplies for customers after that date.
To deal with the situation, PVGas Trading said it is urgently working with partners to secure alternative supplies as soon as possible, with reasonable additional costs.
The company has asked customers to proactively balance their consumption plans or arrange alternative supply sources until the parties reach a further feasible solution.
