PV Gas receives nearly 120,000 tonnes of LNG and LPG from Canada and US

VOV.VN - Petrovietnam Gas Corporation (PV Gas), a member of Vietnam's state-owned energy group Petrovietnam, has received nearly 120,000 tonnes of liquefied natural gas (LNG) and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) imported from Canada and the United States.

On June 7, the Methane Mickie Harper delivered approximately 73,000 tonnes of LNG from Canada to the Thi Vai LNG Terminal. PV Gas described the shipment as one of the largest LNG cargoes it has received this year, helping add cleaner fuel volumes for gas-fired power plants.

The next LNG shipment is expected to arrive at the terminal on June 17-18, carrying about 15,000 tonnes of LNG from Australia. PV Gas said it is proceeding with supplier selection procedures for another LNG cargo scheduled for delivery in early July to meet demand from PV Power and help support the domestic gas-to-power system.

In parallel, the Clipper Wilma arrived in Vietnam carrying approximately 45,000 tonnes of LPG imported from the United States. According to PV Gas, the shipment will help strengthen storage capacity and ensure stable LPG supplies for residential, commercial and industrial users during a period of rising demand.

The company said it has arranged approximately 140,000 tonnes of LPG imports for June and July, including refrigerated LPG and pressurised LPG. Together with domestic production, these volumes will be sufficient to meet demand from domestic customers and the nationwide LPG distribution network operating under the Petrovietnam Gas brand.

The imports form part of PV Gas' strategy to proactively secure supply sources while maximising the efficiency of energy infrastructure developed over many years, including the Thi Vai LNG Terminal and large-scale refrigerated LPG storage facilities.

In the first quarter of the year, PV Gas imported around 354,000 tonnes of LNG. Combined with more than 140,000 tonnes of LPG arranged for the coming months and domestically produced gas and LPG, the company said it will have sufficient supplies to meet demand for power generation, industrial production and household consumption.
