Positive prospects ahead for Vietnam – Morocco trade ties

VOV.VN - Morocco will facilitate help for Vietnamese companies seeking to secure access to local and regional markets, based on their own experience acquired by doing business in Africa, said Moroccan Ambassador to Vietnam Jamale Chouaibi.

Ambassador Chouaibi told Vietnam News Agency in a recent interview that both countries share similarities in terms of geostrategic location and economic potential. According to the diplomat, Morocco is viewed as the gateway to both Africa and Europe, while Vietnam serves as the gateway to Southeast Asia. In addition, the two countries are dynamic emerging economies which are consistently recording steady economic growth.

Vietnam and Morocco can therefore jointly carry out tripartite or quadrilateral investment projects in African countries, especially in the agricultural sector, with the participation of international donors, he said.

Ambassador Chouaibi went on to note that efforts to strengthen cooperative relations come as a result of the two countries’ common desire to promote South-South cooperation. In line with this, Vietnam is now focusing its future strategy on expanding and diversifying its network of economic partners beyond its traditional partners in South Africa, with East Africa and West Africa being the next target of its economic and trading strategy.

Both countries possess strong political will to expand the bilateral partnership which is evidenced by the increasing number of signed cooperation documents, spanning a range of fields such as trade - investment, energy - mining, banking, education - training, and aviation services.

According to the Ambassador, the positive developments made in bilateral ties is a reflection of the increasing trade exchange between the two countries. Currently, Vietnam makes up Morocco’s second most important trading partner in ASEAN.

The two countries’ ambitious plans for renewable energy, digital transformation, tourism, agriculture, infrastructure - logistics, and industrial - technological development, with the aim of becoming leading emerging economies in the regions, will be an opportunity for both sides to share experiences through interagency committees, concluded the diplomat.
