Positive outlook ahead for Vietnamese seafood exports to China

VOV.VN - After recording impressive export growth over recent months thanks to rising consumption demand in China, there are bright prospects for Vietnamese aquatic exports to this market this year, according to the Vietnamese trade counselor in China.

The General Administration of Customs of China reports despite China’s strict COVID-19 measures, Vietnam’s seafood exports to China over the opening four months of the year witnessed an impressive growth rate of 117.6% year-on-year, accounting for approximately 9% of China's total seafood imports.

Nong Duc Lai, Vietnamese trade counsellor in China, attributed such growth to the recovery of consumption demand in China, as well as the knowledge of the latest Chinese regulations on imported seafood products that local firms have acquired.

In addition, Chinese customs have recently granted codes in which to allow several Vietnamese seafood enterprises to export their seafood products to China.

Lai pointed out that although the COVID-19 pandemic is being brought under control in Vietnam, local seafood enterprises must continue to comply with the stringent COVID-19 regulations on food safety and hygiene set by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the UN (FAO), the World Health Organization (WHO), and particularly China, to avoid being returned.

He went on to say that as China sets stricter food safety standards, especially tightened control over imported frozen food, local seafood enterprises have been advised to further improve their product quality and fully abide by guidelines relating to COVID-19 prevention and control set by China in the future.
