PM Chinh calls for US firms’ greater investment in Vietnam’s priotized fields

VOV.VN - Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and his delegation visited Silicon Valley and major technology firms of the United States and the wider world on September 18 as part of his trip to attend the high-level week of the 78th UN General Assembly and bilateral activities in the US.

Visiting Nvidia, a leading semiconductor chip producer in the US, PM Chinh talked with Jensen Huang, co-founder and President of the firm, about the global artificial intelligence development trend, the considerable potential that exists for the company’s co-operation with the nation, along with the national strategy for the semiconductor industry that the country is drafting.

He requested it to further bolster ties with and expand investment in the Vietnamese market in the fields matching its strength and the country’s priorities. This includes providing policy advice and assisting with the training of human resources and the improvement of technological and governance capacity, thereby helping the country to engage more deeply in global supply chains.

He also invited Nvidia to visit the nation at an early date, therefore expressing his hope that it will open a factory locally to make the country its centre for operations in Southeast Asia.

At Synopsys, an electronic design automation company that officially joined the Vietnamese market in 2016, PM Chinh called on the firm to continue expanding its production chains and supply chains in the nation, which he described as objective demand.

As each country boasts a different development level, culture, market, and conditions, he noted that he hopes Synopsys will competently adapt to conditions locally and carry out technological, management, and financial measures in a bid to help the country to develop fast and sustainably.

In particular, the PM asked Synopsys to assist with the development of the Vietnam National Innovation Centre (NIC), become involved in the training of high-quality human resources, including manpower for the semiconductor industry; as well as continuing to recruit Vietnamese people in the US.

With the aim of achieving win-win co-operation and in the spirit of harmonising interests and sharing risks, the country welcomes Synopsys and other US enterprises coming to co-operate with the nation for common successes, thereby generating benefits for the company and both countries, he added.

As part of the occasion, in the presence of PM Chinh and officials of the two countries, Synopsys signed two memoranda of understanding on co-operation in developing integrated circuit manpower in the country and supporting the development of the semiconductor industry locally.

Also on September 18, PM Chinh visited Meta Platforms (formerly named Facebook), a technology multinational running Facebook, Instagram, Threads, WhatsApp, and other products and services.

Joel Kaplan, vice president for Global Public Policy at Meta, said before the COVID-19 pandemic his company had produced some metaverse devices in Vietnam, although the production was later disrupted by the pandemic.

Meta therefore hopes to expand investment in the Vietnamese market, including the continuation of making metaverse devices. He added that the Vietnam Government Portal has been a strategic and effective partner of his firm since the pre-pandemic period.

The Vietnamese Government chief stated that the future of the Vietnam - US comprehensive strategic partnership depends much on their enterprises’ capacity to capitalize on the investment and business potential and opportunities that exists in priority fields.

On the basis of the two countries’ sound political ties, he voiced his belief that collaboration with Meta will become increasingly fruitful and substantive, especially in key areas such as the digital economy, artificial intelligence, digital content, innovation, and digital transformation in enterprises.

PM Chinh called on Meta to supply more technological solutions and transfer more technologies to the nation. This can be done alongside stepping up financial co-operation to develop science - technology, innovation and digital transformation, work to improve the country’s governance capacity in the aspects Meta is strong in. In addition to co-operating in preventing cyber-crimes, protecting cyber safety and security, whilst also providing positive and accurate information about the two countries’ relations.

He concluded by applauding Meta’s enhancement of collaboration with NIC as well as Vietnamese agencies and businesses in the win-win spirit to benefit both countries and bilateral relations as a whole.
