(VOV) - In preparation for the 2015 cashew season the Nigerian Cashew Association of Nigeria (NCAN) organised a conference on February 3 in HCM City at which it urged Vietnamese importers to handle cashew nuts with greater care.
Sotonye Anga, the spokesperson for NCAN, said that cashew nuts require special care and in particular it is important to avoid all moisture, adding that if bags containing cashews get moistened, the cashews could sprout shoots.
Due to the long transit time for cashews to be transported from Nigeria to Asia, if the bags become moistened they are useless, Anga stressed.
According to the Vietnam Cashew Association (VINACAS), in 2014 Vietnam imported 769,000 tonnes of cashew nuts, 13.4% of them were from Nigeria.
