New Zealand’s new apple variety makes world debut in Vietnam

VOV.VN - The premium Joli apple variety, developed by New Zealand’s T&G Global, has just been launched in the Vietnamese market, marking the first time this variety has been introduced to consumers worldwide.

T&G Global managing director Shane Kingston said the new variety, a large red apple that is sweet, juicy and perfect for families, targets consumers who value quality and the tasting experience.

The selection of Vietnam to make Joli’s world debut aligns with T&G’s strategy to ramp up its push into the lucrative Asian export market. It also offers Vietnamese consumers the opportunity to experience a premium new apple variety from New Zealand, he added.

"Joli builds on T&G's proven ability to take outstanding New Zealand-bred apple varieties to the world," Kingston said.

He shared that a new apple like the Joli represented over a decade of breeding, testing and growing before it could be brought to market.

With the Envy brand reaching US$1 billion status as an earner in global retail sales this year, T&G expected Joli to build on the success of the premium Envy apple variety.

Between 2025 and 2030, the global premium apple category is expected to grow from US$13 billion to US$19 billion, representing a compound annual growth rate of almost 8%.

There are now 270 hectares of Joli under cultivation in New Zealand. T&G has plans to grow 1500ha of Joli in NZ by 2035.
