New prospect for Vietnam, EU economic cooperation

(VOV) - Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung announced on October 13 the government intends to move forward fast to strike the Vietnam-EU Free Trade Agreement (VEFTA), a strategic part of the nation’s overall agenda for growth and jobs.

At a meeting with representatives from leading Vietnamese and Belgium businesses in Brussels, PM Dung said Vietnam is determined to continue opening the door to foreign direct investment (FDI) in all economic sectors in line with its World Trade Organisation (WTO) commitments.

“The development and modernisation of infrastructure is one of the top three national priorities to ensure the Vietnam economy develops rapidly and sustainably,” he underscored.

Dung affirmed that the Vietnamese government is also moving quickly to conclude the legal framework and putting more effective policies and incentives in place to encourage infrastructure development utilising the Public-Private Partnership (PPP).

Vietnam encourages foreign businesses to invest in infrastructure development, particularly in the transport, seaport, railway and hospital sectors, he added.
