A nationwide survey on phone and internet use will start at the beginning of June, according to a decision made by the Prime Minister on March 31.

Under Decision No 420/QD-TTg, the Ministry of Information and Communications (MIC) will be in charge of guiding provincial and municipal People’s Committee through the process. It will also look over and analyse the results of the survey.

The MIC will receive data from telecommunications and internet enterprises and radio and television broadcasters at all levels.

The survey aims to assess the popularity of telecommunications and internet use nationwide to provide a sound basis for reviewing the public communication programme during 2006-2010.

By the end of March, the country had 137.6 million phone subscribers, a 57.7 percent rise from 2009.

Meanwhile, Vietnam now has an internet using population of 23.3 million.
